Sagunabaug is NOT a resort, its an EXPERIENCE!
Pls do not expect luxurious, modern rooms with latest aminities... Saguna is not built for that.
Saguna is built to give you a close to nature, nice and warm village like environment minus all the hardships.
Everything in Saguna is built around giving you that experience. The rooms, the roads, staff, food, activities and even their utensilis.. they all have the same moto... to offer you a unique Saguna experience.
I will cover what i liked and why:
1. Rooms - I wanted a pond house but gave up after unsucessfully trying for years. I had to settle for a 1st floor cottage. It is nothing close to the hotel like rooms you will find in most of the resorts as its intention is to give you that special experience. The rooms were, village like, spacious, clean and worth the money.
2. Food: Their package includes veg food. I am not a fan of veg food but i learnt from my family that the food was tasty, again not the usual stuff you get at a hotel or a restaurant but thats not the goal either... they serve you proper home/village like food. So you may be dissapointed if you are expecting dishes with fancy names.
I ordered chicken and fish fry and it was yummy to say the least. Worth the price and yes that too was home/village like.
3. Activities: I was a little late so couldnt do the entire farm tour but the little i managed was a good, learning experience. Holding an Iguana, standing next to a huge fluffy Ostrich, rod fishing, Cow milking, swimming in the river, buffalo riding, camp fire and every other free activity contributes immensly in giving you that unique experience and i loved it a lot!
All paid activities like bullock cart, pot making, horse riding, camel riding, etc, again, gives you that village like experience (except, zipline but that too was fun).
4. Environment: This is Saguna's biggest USP. Things that are always around but not much noticed, the greenery, fresh air, birds chirping all day long, the huge property without any pedicured roads, the hammocks and swings, the ponds, all of these take you far far away from a city life and thats a refreshing experience.
5. Staff: I WOULD GO BACK TO SAGUNA FOR THIS REASON ALONE. I was pleasently surprised to know that they allot a guide to each group. That guide helps you with the tour, free activities, paid activities, food, room service, transport and everything you need. Thes guides are very well trained and are real good people... they actually treat you like guests and make sure you enjoy the experience that Saguna has to offer.
I honeslty can not think of any cons or negative points or a bad experience... i only have a few suggestions:
1. I feel the place is under utilised, there is a lot of space which they can use for more activities. This may be on their to do list already and obiviously its easier and less costly to put this suggestion on a website as compared to actually implementing it but i am greedy now and want more!
2. They should have some merchandise to offer... a souvenier like some unique Tshirt or a mug or some toy/show piece
3. Nearest ATM is around 4 km away and some vendors/shops/activities dont accept online payment so they should either start it or Saguna should come up with some thing like coupons.
I am sure this was one of my many trips there... i will keep going back to Saguna for that experience!
